Heavy Police Presence in Berlin-Neukölln: Demonstration by Representatives of Banned Network Samidoun Leads to Arrests

On Friday evening, a gathering in Berlin-Neukölln drew attention and police intervention. According to police reports, approximately 100 to 150 people gathered on Sonnenallee. Several of them waved Palestinian flags and ignited fireworks. The police described the atmosphere as "heated" and confirmed that arrests were made.

Among those present were representatives of the recently banned pro-Palestinian network Samidoun. This network had celebrated the terrorist attack by the Palestinian organization Hamas on Israel last weekend by distributing sweets.

Police officers were on site in protective gear and helmets, cordoning off an intersection with tape. According to the police, up to 400 officers were deployed on Friday to prevent such gatherings.

According to a police spokesperson, there was a bottle-throwing incident, and fireworks were ignited. Three individuals were arrested in connection with these events. The situation was eventually brought under control by the law enforcement.

The police announced increased presence on the streets in the coming days, especially in the neighborhoods of Neukölln, Wedding, and the government district. These actions are part of the authorities' efforts to prevent gatherings with the potential for violence and extremist activities related to the Middle East conflict.

The incident in Neukölln highlights the ongoing tensions and high emotions that the Middle East conflict triggers not only in the affected region but also in European cities. German law enforcement faces the challenge of maintaining public order while respecting the right to freedom of expression and assembly.
